The nine-story, 500,000 SF new Main Hospital opened in the spring of 1998. The four-phase $241 million modernization project involved substantial replacement of all clinical facilities.
RW designed the 6,000-ton chilled water plant, the new
23 kV main substation with 3750/5250 kVA rated transformers,
a 210,000 lb/hr HPS power plant, and the campus wide
security system to tie all outlying buildings on the
RCPI Campus to the new Security Office in the new Main
Hospital Building. The security system consists of TV
cameras, monitors, cabling, door access controls and
miscellaneous alarms from remote buildings. The design
also included tie-ins from remote building fire alarm
systems with a new interface to the Buffalo Fire Department.
Fire protection systems included multiple electric fire pumps, sprinkler, standpipe and preaction systems. Systems were integrated with smoke control and fire alarm systems to produce a fully coordinated fire protection system.
