In 1902, the prominent local architects of Archimedes
Russell and Melvin King were commissioned to design
one of the most elaborate and elegant courthouses in
New York State. This classical structure remains steadfast
in the downtown district of Syracuse, New York.
Recent modernization efforts of the RobsonWoese engineers
allowed for improvements to the building's storm and
sanitary water systems, add fire protection systems
and up-grade of the elevator equipment to ensure people
can move efficiently. Further alterations included modifying
the existing courtrooms with energy efficient lighting
and state-of-the-art fire alarm system while preserving
the historic nature of this grandiose structure.

This $28 million dollar project stands as an example
of the good that can come from the unique partnership
of the New York State court system, the City of Syracuse,
and the County of Onondaga. Cohabitation within this
facility includes the city and county courts, the district
attorney's office, the county jury commissioner's office
and the county and city court clerk's offices making
it truly exceptional.
Among the many services provided by RobsonWoese, was
the complex construction services extended to the owner.
Special attention was given to the advanced smoke control,
fire protection and HVAC systems within this modern
facility. Working together, these systems ensure building
occupants have a safe and secure means to exit the building
in the event of a fire. The RobsonWoese constuction
services team worked closely with the contractors, controls
specialists, owner and local code officials to ensure
these integrated systems performed as specified.
