Healthcare
Healthcare is changing and hospital data centers need reliable expertise in front of the curve.
With patient safety and data center reliability becoming united, developing a data center strategy to accommodate projected demand is fast becoming a top priority. Hospital data centers were originally created to support non-clinical functions such as payroll, insurance processing and eventually some basic patient information. Today, data centers are becoming critical to the actual well-being of the patient.
Case Study
New Primary IT Server Room
Roswell Park Cancer Institute
Buffalo, NY
Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) had a need for a backup or new primary IT server room (Data Center). A feasibility study of a newly acquired building performed by Hewlett-Packard confirmed use of the facility for a data center was feasible. The report also identified critical building modifications needed to accommodate the data center. The data center is located in approximately 2,800 sq.ft. of space on the first floor. The space was totally reconditioned to include a raised floor and separate room for the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and related electrical equipment. The data center is a Tier II facility with some features approaching Tier III levels. Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) Units were designed in a N+1 arrangement for redundancy. The electrical power is conditioned through the UPS and distributed through Power Distribution Units (PDUs). The utility power source is backed up by an emergency diesel generator located inside the building's first floor. RW provided fast tracked design services to support an aggressive project schedule.
