As the lead fire protection engineer and code consultant
working with the design team and developer, RW provided
Code Consulting for Palisades Center Mall, a 3.0 million
sq. ft. four-level shopping and entertainment facility
offering retail and department stores, movie theaters,
food court, dining establishments, and a full basement
for indoor parking.
The project included written documentation for major
code provisions for fire protection and life safety.
Numerous code equivalencies were presented to and accepted
by local and state authorities, resulting in incorporation
of innovative design features and coordinated protection
concepts that offered an equivalent or higher level
of safety from the effects of fire than prescribed by
the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building
Code. In addition, full fire sprinkler, standpipe, and
fire pump schemes were provided.
