When Syracuse University needed a world-class research
facility, it turned to RobsonWoese to deliver a truly
unique, sophisticated laboratory. BEESL is a key research
laboratory associated with the New York Strategically
Targeted Academic Research Center for Environmental
Quality Systems and the New York Indoor Environmental
Quality Center located in Syracuse, New York. RW provided
the University with prime professional services, including
engineering design and turnkey construction services.
This unique facility demanded ultra-clean systems with
precise control to simulate indoor and outdoor thermal
and air-quality conditions, relative to the impact of
outdoor weather conditions on IEQ. To meet the demanding
project specifications, the design-build team made major
modifications to most system apparatus to meet the stringent
operational requirements. From ultra-low air leakage
construction to application of non-absorbing and non-emitting
materials, BEESL enables scientists and students at
Syracuse University to collect valuable information
to advance the knowledge of IEQ and building energy
efficiency. The successful design and construction of
the BEESL project has enabled Syracuse University and
research community to advance the understanding of IEQ
and energy utilization solutions.
